Deep Roots, Bright Futures

The Wallace L. Downs Scholarship nurtures the academic dreams of Oak Ridge members by offering financial aid each semester. Established by Rev. Ricky D. Turner in 1999 to honor the late Pastor Wallace L. Downs—an unwavering champion of education and civil rights—this award keeps his legacy alive through Spirit-led service.

Requirements, Deadlines & How to Apply


• Submit your initial application by July 15th, 2025.
• Active Oak Ridge MBC member under age 21 (or continuously enrolled undergrad).
• High‐school seniors: 2.7 GPA minimum & letter of admission.
• College students: maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA and 12 credit hours/semester.
• Participate in church life and summer service when home.

Submit a two-page, spirit-filled autobiography each Fall, sharing your Christian journey, growth plans, and how you’ll stay rooted in fellowship on campus.

Maintaining Your Scholarship

Submit your renewal application by January 15th, 2026

.Remain enrolled full-time with at least 12 credit hours.
• Keep a 2.7 GPA—if you fall below, you may regain eligibility next semester.

•Current semester grade report required each term.
• Submit a two-page, spirit-filled autobiography each Fall, sharing your Christian journey, growth plans, and how you’ll stay rooted in fellowship on campus.

Under Rev. Turner’s enduring vision, these scholarships—over 300 granted to date—continue to sow hope and harvest leaders for God’s Kingdom.
